Samsung goes e-reading NEXT
Global electronics giant Samsung, reputed for advanced electronic and mobile gadgets, has expanded its operations to include the production of smart e-book readers.
The Samsung E6 and E101 e-book reader is designed with sleek and portable features to aid easy access to contents while mobile. Both devices, which were unveiled on January 6, offer exciting features for reading, writing and sharing on the go.
“We have used our expertise to create a high-quality e-book with today’s on-the-go consumer in mind,” said Young Bae, director of display marketing, Samsung Information Division. “Samsung is addressing a common frustration that uses experience with many of today’s digital readers with a stylus that allows them annotate their favourite works or take notes. Coupled with wireless functionality that enables sharing of contents; this is a truly multifaceted device.”
Design
The Samsung E6 and E101 e-book reader have similar model with Samsung mobile phones, especially with its slide-out features.
The Samsung E6 e-book reader is designed with a six-inch E-ink display while the Samsung E101, which is the larger model, features a larger 10-inch E-ink display. Display of functions in both devices comes with touch screen abilities and has a 600 x 800 pixel resolution. Contents in both devices are displayed only in “black and white”. They also offer eight shades of greyscale.
Both devices have 2GB internal memory, which Samsung says can store up to 1500 books, and micro SD external memory card slot for additional storage capacity.
Other features of the device are a slide-down control panel, which comprises menu and navigation buttons for browsing. It also comes with an Mp3 player for fun music, head phone jacks to support headphones and two internal speakers and one front facing speaker.
Unique features
Samsung has put in some features that are not present in other e-book readers. For instance, the devices enable hand writing capabilities, which can be done directly on the display via a dedicated stylus pen attached to them. Users can also annotate their reading selections, calendars and menu list. In addition both devices have accessories like an eraser for cleaning while drawing on the display.
Users can also download and share documents through Wi-Fi and in-built Bluetooth. Documents like e-books, e-newspapers can be downloaded on the e-reader’s 802.11b/g.
Unlike many e-book readers, the Samsung e-books consume less power, due to the absence of a backlit display known for high power consumption. The display reflects light naturally, allowing users to read more naturally.
Documents, data and e-books on a wide range of formats like EPUB, PDF and TXT can be opened and displayed on the Samsung E6 and E101 e-book readers. Visuals are also compatible in BMP or Jpeg formats.
The price for the Samsung E6 model is $399 (N59, 850) and Samsung E101 model is $699 (N104, 850). But there is no word yet on a release date for both devices.

something wrong with my olympus stylus 850 SW digital camera when i take a pic?
i got one of the olympus stylus 850 SW cameras (the waterproof/shockproof one) for christmas and i have been playing around with it...and when i take a picture it makes a weird buzzing noise...it sounds like it is coming from the lens but i dont know...is it supposed to do that or is there something wrong with it?
I have the same camera and it probably the sound it makes when its focusing on the object you're taking a picture of. try pressing the button you use to take the picture, half way down(NOT all the way so that you take a picture), and if it makes that noise, its def. focusing its lens.

I'm thinking of buying the Olympus Stylus 850 SW, but it's kinda pricey. So I wanted to know your personal experiences and opinions on his camera to help me make the decision.
Also, does it require regular batteries, or does it come with one I just hafta keep recharging?

I haven't tried the camera, but I'm going to buy one too. Staples has the cameras for $239.99 in store (not online). So, if you're going to buy one, I would recommend going there. The store in my area only had orange ones though.
About batteries, it has a rechargeable one, but some reviews I've read say that the battery life isn't great. Overall though, it seems like an awesome camera!

Olympus Stylus 850 SW- How do I get the photos to rotate?
I just went from a Canon to this cool underwater camera. It sucks... I am thinking of returning it, but one of my main issues is that when I transfer all the photos to my computer, it doesn't rotate the up-and-down ones. My Canon did that automatically, but this one, I have to manually go and rotate each photo. Am I missing something? Is there a way to do it?
The Olympus Stylus 850 SW doesn't have an orientation sensor therefore automatic rotation is not possible. If this feature is so important and if its absence is that annoying then maybe it's best if you return or exchange it.
Whenever I try to take a picture with my olympus stylus 850 sw the screen goes black. Any suggestions?
I've tried resetting the defaults but that has done nothing. Whenever it's in picture mode the screen is black. I can review old pictures fine but now all the pictures I take result in a blank screen.

yes, I just got this camera in pink and i tried it out in a pool yesterday and it worked! It took me a while to decide if I wanted to get it, because I was unsure of the other features and the quality of the photos, but it has 8 megapixels and tons of really cool options for when you are in just about every setting! I would definitely recommend it
My images on my olympus stylus 850 SW won't show up when i click transfer from camera?
i have olympus master, and i clicked transfer from camera.. and it says "reading thumbnails...." and then it stops and nothings shown where the pictures are suposed to show. i don't understand,

DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD!!! It will erase any pictures that are already on the card.
Get out the instruction manual for the Olympus Master software and check the settings that you need to have on the camera BEFORE you connect it to the computer. Also make sure that you have fully charged batteries in the camera if you are transferring from the camera.
Better still use a card reader if you have one built into the computer or get an inexpensive reader ($10-$15) that plugs into a USB slot. Then remove the card from the camera and insert it into the xD slot of your computer and have the Olympus Master software search for the card reader! If you buy a card reader make sure it includes an xD slot, some readers do not support that format but most do.
Also, you do not need to use the Olympus Master software to access the images, you can use many other tools including the standard image viewers that come with Windows or Mac.

You must have a Olympus XD memory card if you have any other memory card the feature will not be available. If you do have the appropriate memory card when you are taking a picture hit menu then the panorama option will be in there.
Should I upgrade from my Olympus Stylus 850 SW?
Olympus has always been one of my favorite brands and I'd prefer to stay in the normal 'point and shoot' digital camera area. (Although, the Stylus, in my view, is far from a normal point and shoot. Even though I would like to upgrade to a D SLR, I don't see that happening any time soon..) Nevertheless, I do not have the cash to get anything over $350. Any suggestions for a rather serious, amateur, digital photographer?
Fuji makes several really nice super-zoom cameras that have many of the controls that an SLR has without the expensive price tag.
These 2 models will be in your price range. They will give you MUCH more range on the zoom and will accept any XD memory cards you may have with your Stylus 850:

I have a Olympus Stylus 850 SW camera and I am having trouble with the panorama function.?
I have an Olympus xD-Picture Card and I can only use the function on the blur reduce setting. Even then I can only combine the pictures on the computer not on the Camera 1 or Camera 2 setting.
1st - Rotate mode selector to the camera image
2nd - Press the OK/FUNC button
Surprise - a new menu should now be on the left side of the display
3rd- Press the arrow key right to change from AUTO mode to P mode, then press OK/FUNC to exit
Finally go back to the panorama setup and the incamera settings will be available
Is it okay to take an Olympus Stylus 850 SW to the beach?
I just recently bought it, and I have tried it underwater in a pool, but I wasn't sure if it could be in like sand and salt(water)

Yes, it should be just fine because on the Olympus 850 SW webpage it says...
"WATERPROOF (10FT).
Innovative waterproof seals and gaskets allow you to take underwater movies and amazing pictures in a pool, lake or ocean."
and..."The perfect camera for a trip to the great outdoors, the airtight design makes the camera impervious to dust, dirt and other particles."
and..."Whether you're taking pictures on the beach, at night, behind glass or even underwater, there's a Shooting Mode that's ideal for the occasion".
However, you should still take care when using it at the beach...don't go dropping it or burying it in the sand or anything.
Have a look on...pages 62 and 66...of your instruction manual, on how best to care for, clean and maintain the camera (especially after a trip to the beach). Looking after it correctly will ensure that the camera remains in good condition for a long time.
