Big Shots: Day One BamaMag.com (subscription)

Adjehi Baru , C, Team Loaded: There is no “off” button with this guy. Everything is done at 100 percent. We caught him in a mismatch game and he grabbed 20 rebounds. He was the best player we saw on Saturday. Baru grabs every rebound he should and half of the ones he has no chance at. He goes at such a pace that I’m not sure he could do it for 32 minutes in a college game but I’d like to see him try. Anything near the rim, he’s trying to pound it. Offensively he’s able to be slow down and see the floor, making himself a good passer. Between his ability to run the floor and Tyler Lewis ’ mindset to reward him, it’s a strong pairing. Lewis feeds him regularly and it’s a match set.

Jernard Garreau , PF, N.O. D1 Ambassadors: If you value length, he’s your guy. Garreau has work to do on his body and doesn’t have the strength to hold his ground or finish with contact. What he has is a desire to chase board, a solid motor and enough upside ala Jeremy Evans (WKU) to be an attractive mid-level guy with a nice ceiling to improve.

Robert Brown , SG, Fla. Assault: The Hokies has a guy with an edge to his game and the speed and separation power to point himself at the rim and the determination and athleticism to get there and make a play. What makes him a fit for Seth Greenberg is his swagger.

Kameron Dunnican, C, SC Ravens: This is a well-built, athletic kid who aces the look test. He’ll be a kid the bigger schools peek in on because of the physical tools. If he were to become a producer some may think about going on him but he’ll have a strong selection of mids to choose from.

Jackson Simmons , PF, Team Loaded: Lewis (the assist man) and Baru (the blocker/finisher) get much of the ink. Jackson is the lunch pail glue guy of the crew and he was outstanding in an easy win. He’ll be the kid in college who maxes out his talents and plays his role exactly how the coach envisions. He caught him get 16 and 10 in a game. Runs the floor, battles for boards and his touch is solid to mid-range.

Dai-Jon Parker , SG, GNB: On this squad, he’s got primary ball handler responsibilities. Frankly, we didn’t think of him that way until Saturday when he showed some long term potential to make the transition from the SG to the point. Playing with this squad allows him to expand his game at that position which is intriguing. There are definitely points of emphasis to work on like ball value, but he’s a smart kid and could be a combo in some situations early in his career.

Jabril Trawick , SG/SF, Team Phenom: Need a guy to break someone down, Trawick is a good option. For starters, he’s man-strong. There’s a Philly toughness to him and when he decides he’s going to the rim, he gets his way or goes to the line. We’ll watch him again on Sunday but he made a big impression and created buzz with his game.

Toddrick Gotcher, SG, Seawolves: Like Parker and Nick Faust (also here) he’s fresh off an appearance at the King City Classic we cut the world travelers slack in the eval department. Gotcher has a rep as a shooter but his stroke has a hitch in it so he’s better as a rhythm guy. He struggled going 5-for-17 but we like his game. He’ll be a C-USA, Mountain West type recruit and a good mid-level player.

Shaquille Cleare , C, Houston Defenders: He’s a massive force in the lane. He got fouled hard and it brushed it off like the Titanic lost a deck chair, no big deal. His hands are super, he’s got the mind of a passer in the post and when he sets a pick, he sets a pick. Line ‘em up, the big boys are going to come hard and strong.

Aaron Harrison , PG, Houston Defenders: They jumped all over a young Ga. Stars team and shredded them behind Aaron’s defensive effort. It was one of the top jobs we’ve seen someone do on that side of the ball. Aaron’s intensity filtered into his brother Andrew’s game that also got involved. These guys will likely play together because they play off each other well. The squad they roll with is well-coached by their father and an easy team to evaluate because they run plays and the Harrison kids know how to play the game.

Javan Felix, PG, N.O. D1: At the Hoop Jamboree he was just another small guard. With his team, he’s the captain of the ship. There’s a toughness to him and some think he could be a big school guy. Worst-case scenario is he leads a great mid-major program. He’s playing hungry and aggressive.

Theo Pinson, G, Oak Ridge: The state of N.C. is hot and getting deeper with talent. Pinson has every chance to be a special player. He’s got the length, versatility and he shot it on Saturday. Coaches were asking about him all day long.

How much does it cost to get your D1 licence?

I have held my current licence for a few years, for work related matters I require a D1 entitled licence. Does anyone know how much it costs and what is involved?

My daughter took hers a couple of years ago and it cost almost £1,000!! It is incredibly expensive I think. She took a course which I think lasted 2 weeks, it was a very good course and she passed with 100%, they put a copy of her pass notification on the wall in the office. Even so she now needs her C1, another £1000!
Good luck

How Can I Go to a D1 Baseball school in the states if I live in Canada?

I Live in Toronto Canada and I have been told by my cousin who was drafted and other coaches that I have enought talent and the work ethic to go to a D1 School in the states. The Problem is Scouts dont come and Watch us Play.
Im 5'11 145 pounds I play centrefield and I pitch ocasionally I run the 60 yard in 7.24 and im in my sophmore year at Highschool.

If you want to play D1 college baseball in the USA my advice is to get on a summer team that travels in the USA. I know there are Canadian teams that come to the states ane play all the time in tournaments, I would look for one of those like the Ontario Blue Jays. You can also try to get on a team in the states if you are willing to live here. Also, come to a few showcases in the states.....these two places are where all the D1 scouts and coaches will find you.

If they don't come, go there and get noticed..... Play at a college and work ur way up! FYI i have friends in D1 and minors for Yanks. Bigger and taller, more they want you. So if you're a bigger kid for your age, you might have an added bonus

if they ask u to go go, but i think u have to live in the states to go.
I want to go to one and i live in the states.
What i would do is google it.

play hockey haha jk... maybe come to a showcase or two in the states, create highlight reel, find an canadian aau team( there are ones my team beat team canada )

If you have to ask this question, you're not good enough. If you wre good enough, scouts would find you. That's how it works.

Hope this helps.

I think you can, not sure how though. I live in the states, and all you have to do is get notices. Maybe come down to the states for a bit and work out down here, or call some people!

You should check out Russell Martin's story. It's similar to yours in that he grew up playing baseball in Canada where he didn't get noticed by scouts. He went to a junior college in the US, then got a scholarship to NC State (I think), but chose to go to the MLB instead.

I would suggest getting on a junior college team in America first...there are a lot of players that come into the basketball and football ranks out of junior colleges and community colleges, and they seem to work into the program just fine. The coaches seem to recruit a lot better from the junior colleges, too.

How fast does a catcher need to get serious looks from a D1 college? How do you get faster?

I'm a high school catcher that hits well and is good behind the plate but i think i need to be a bit faster. How fast to get good looks from a D1 college and how do i get faster?

Not that fast a lot of catcher arnt fast. Maybe run a 40 in like 5.4 seconds or something, im not sure just guessing. But just have a good arm, be able to call the game well and block pitches. But you should still try to get as fast as you can. Also be a good hitter

Catchers don't have to be fast, just look at the Molinas. If you have a strong arm, play good defense that's the key. Hitting is a plus.

if you really are commited to playing you should maybe look into a personal trainer or a speed coach and he could teach you the mechanics and the exercise to build up ur strength or you could just do sprints everyday trust it works and good luck on the scholarship for a D1 school.

Lose some weight lol jk you don't need to be fast at all no1 expects you to being on your knees getting up and down for the hole half an inning.

You get "serious looks" by being good and if you're not good enough now, it ain't gonna happen. You're surely not going to get the answer you want in a forum of 90% illiterate 12 year olds.

really fast you should run everyday and not stop until you get into that college

How good of a combine score do you need to get a D1 scholarship?

I was wondering what kind of score in the National underclassmen combine D1 schools looked for, as in bench, verticle jump, 40 time, shuttle etc...? Has anyone heard of what someones score was that got into a good D1 school. Thanks
its a combine for football, google it

What national underclassmen combine?

What are my chances of getting a d1 scholarship to play baseball?

I'm 6'2 and 198lbs. i'm 16 years old and really enjoy baseball what are my chances of going to a d1 college. I throw in the low 80's and have a good changeup and curveball how can i get noticed???

Your chances will greatly increase if your grades are good. That much I know for sure.

good grades and have good senior season

Play well and keep your grades up.

Like the others said..keep your grades up... but sersiously if you arent in a big school, get to as many camps as possible, get the coach thinking about you, send your stats in to colleges and go on visits.. keep working out and get stronger and all to

To get noticed you need to start playing on good traveling summer team such as an American Legion team. You also need to be a hitter, and a good hitter. A low 80's fastball will not get you much D1 consideration, so you will need to let your bat do the talking. There are plenty of D1 players who's position is hitter. The main thing I remember about D1 players compared to JUCO and high school players is that they were huge, even the little speedsters were huge.

How are D1 state tournament seeds decided for wrestling?

I wrestle d1 in massachusetts and I want to know how they decided the seeds in the state tournament for this year

How good does a high school basketball player have to be to get a d1 scholarship?

How good do you have to be to get a scholarship for a d1 college? how about d2? Btw, it's for someone that's 6'1" or 6'2" so probably for a point guard. please list things like stats to help be more accurate

you have to be pretty good. at least top 20 in your state and show potential of being a future star.

Is there a way to measure the Fel D1 content in cat saliva?

I need to do a science experiment for school, so I am comparing the Fel D1 content between hypoallergenic (non-allergic) cats and regular cats. I need a way to measure the Fel D1 content of their saliva. Does anybody know a way this can be done easily.

There is a way to measure Fel D1 levels, but unfortunately it isn't something you are likely to be able to get access to for school.

A process called ELISA is used, which stands for Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay.

Here is some information about how ELISA works : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELISA

Since the Fel D1 is a complex protein, it is very hard to detect or quantify it without access to relatively expensive high tech equipment.

It wouldn't be very accurate, but I guess the only other way to compare cats would be to find somebody who is allergic to cats that is willing to undergo 'controlled exposure' to a number of cats, for a set period of time & then describe the severity of the allergic reaction.

Hope that helps.

Can you go to a D1 school from a community college?

I am 5'7 and a junior. I played football my Sophmore and Freshman year and was a QB. I am very accurate and can throw the deep ball like no other. I recently had to quit for the reason that I broke my left arm (not my throwing arm) and I have a job and have to catch up with my grades and couldn't play this year. I might play next year depending on how I do, but the question comes to me could I go from a community college to a D1 or even D2 school if i play well for those 2 years.

it is possible to transfer, you always hear "a junior college transfer" when you watch college games on ESPN and stuff like that, but playing QB at 5'7" is highly unlikly, you wont be able to see over the 6'6" linemen but good luck

Is it possible to go to D1 baseball from D3 baseball?

I'm a person who wants to play baseball in college. However, my school only has D3 baseball. Is it possible to go to D1 baseball?

I don't see why not. If you transfer to a D1 school you may have to sit out a year though.
