The Nikon Coolpix S1 is the latest in a long line of Coolpix digital cameras whose popularity stretches back to the original Coolpix 900, Nikon's first "breakthrough" digicam. Nikon Coolpix S1 has blank screen but menu and info will display?

My Coolpix S1 will display the information and any old pictures I took, but it will not display in camera or video mode. It is fully charged and the lens cap is opening. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?
Yeah too late by a year...lol

I guess it's to late to say buy a Sony!

I recently found this camera while clearing out my grandads house...it looks really cool and would love to be able to use it...if anyone knows also what type of lead i need to connect it to the computer that would be great..!

Amazon has a Nikon MH-62 Battery Charger they claim work with the Coolpix S1. According to the user manual, you can also get an Nikon EH-53 AC Adapter and charge your camera through the Cool-station (dock). Also, the UC-E10 USB cable will let you connect your camera to your computer, or you could just put the memory card directly in a card reader (I prefer this).

I have a 3 year old Nikon Coolpix S1. It randomly stopped working the other day. The screen is black and whenever I take a picture (with flash on) the image is black. It doesnt even allow light in, the screen remains pitch black. THe menu words show up, its just the image and the screen dont show anything. help!

I had the same camera of the same age, different model. When I went to see if my camera could be fixed, I was told that it would be over $100 to fix, and the latest camera model was about $125. I ended up replacing the camera.

I bought one from ebay, that was listed but when i received it and put it in the camera it just says on it, this card cannot be used.... i sent it back, and the seller is now asking me if the camera can take a 4GB...even though he advertised it for this camera...pleas help!!!!!!!!

I am surprised that neither you nor the seller checked to see if this over three year old camera can use SDHC cards. It cannot. I uses SD memory cards. Send him this link and show him that 4GB SDHC cards are not compatible with your camera

how can I take clear pics with a nikon coolpix S1?

I'm already using the automatic mode, and yet whenever I take pictures (while moving) it's always BLURRY! Unlike my friend's samsung digicam even if it's moving the results are still clear as long as it's on automatic mode. ANy ideas would be appreciated! thx :)

Does your coolpix have the "SPORT" mode? if yes then set to that mode then lets see what happened

how do i shut off the flash on this camera because its so bright and makes the pics that i take even more white. please help! 10 points will be rewarded

The Coolpix S1 has 5 flash settings.
On page 18 of this manual it explains them and shows how to change from the one you are on.

..the letters ISO are on it and don't know if that is significant..

ISO relates to the shutter speed, if you have it set too high then it will only show a black screen, either set it to auto or 100 and if it is still a black screen I am afraid it is probably the CCD chip in the camera that interpets the image seen through the lense that has faulted/died.

Mine did this earlier this year and had to be sent off to the manufacturer for a new chip, this cost over £150, so dependant on the cost of your camera it might be worth replacing it.

best thing you can do is take it into one of the high street retailers like jessops who will be able to give you a decent opinion of the fault.

The screen is just black, but it shows the menu and my previously taken photos. Whenever I take a picture, it just shows up as black? Is there something wrong with the connection between my lense and the screen?

Sounds like you have a serious/probably fatal electronic problem with your camera. Have you dropped it, they don't bounce well.The problem is definitely circuit or processor related, very rarely do these problems fix themselves and shops that repair most digital cameras are pretty outrageous.At this point, try to find someone who seems to know something about fixing delicate complicated things and give it a shot, it seems you have nothing to lose at this time. The upside is that there are some great deals on new cameras out there.
