does my nikon coolpix 8800 take super fast cf cards?

can i use pro cards , 133 x, 80x ect.

I DUNNO!

I need help with my Digital slr (nikon coolpix 8800)?

I can't see any images. I can see the menu, options, flash mode, etc. on the lcd and viewfinder, but it's just dark in the background.

You may have the monitor shut off in the shooting mode.

On my Coolpix 5400, there is a small button that has an outline of a TV screen shape. Press this 3 times to cycle through all modes of the monitor in shooting mode: Full screen; full screen with data; monitor off. I hope your 8800 works the same way.

lens cap? review button stuck? is it still taking the pictures?

i have a nikon Coolpix 8800 camera and the megapixes are set too high. i was wondering how to lower the amount

You will have to be in some mode OTHER than "Auto" to change the file size. Select "P," for instance. Even though you do not makes these changes in the "Auto" mode, they will be applied there and in all other modes until you change them back.

Hit "Menu"and then choose "Image quality/Size." From here, choose, "Image Size." From here, you should see a list of several different files sizes, probably ranging from 8 MP down to 640x480 pixels. Select the one you want and you're done.

Which is better camera - Nikon Coolpix 8800 or Nikon DSLR D50?

I had the CoolPix 8700 for two years. It's the model before the 8800 - the same camera but it didn't have image stabilization. It's was a nice camera but a few limitations drove me up the wall. Mainly:
* poor low light performance
* slow AF and no practical way to focus manually (you need 2 minutes to set it up.)
* lag due to the electronic viewfinder
This made the 8700 a terrible camera for action shots and the 8800 is no different. In all honesty, no compact camera is any good for action shots. It is a great camera for landscape pictures and portraits however.
Given the choice between the 8800 and the D50, get the D50. It has less megapixels than the 8800 and only the more expensive lenses have image stabilization, but it´s a vastly more responsive and better tool. (I eventually got a D200.)

Does lexar 4GB 133x CF compatible with nikon coolpix 8800?

yes it will work if its an sd then it will work on nikon if its micro then it will as long as it is the card the camera uses

Anyone know anything about a nikon cooplix 8800?

anyone that knows something about a nikon coolpix 8800. i need set the exposure to 10-30secs.

many thanx

Just checked out dpreview which says the max shutter for your camera is 8s, but it does have a bulb mode. This means you can expose for as long as you want, but it will require you to start and stop the exposure yourself manually and time it yourself too.

which is the good DSLR camera which matches the compactness and portability of point & shoot cameras??

I am really confused if to go for Nikon D50, Nikon coolpix 8800 or nikon s4... please help me out.I want to get a good camera which can help me take good pictures at night and also moving subject;s pictures with clarity...

You have options of buying an SLR camera or a compact camera. Read on to see a third option.

SLR is Single Lens Reflex as the others have already mentioned. The image that you see from the viewfinder is captured from the main lens and reflected onto the viewfinder with an intricate arrangement of mirrors (or prisms). When you click the shutter, the mirror moves out of the way and the image is imposed on the CCD sensor. What that effectively means is that you see EXACTLY THE SAME IMAGE from the viewfinder as is captured on the CCD. That helps, doesn't it?

Disadvantages with D-DLRs (or film SLRs) range from need to have expensive lenses, no inbuilt zoom, bulky size, extremely high price (sometimes greater than $800 that you mention and even if its lesser, the cost of the lens is always additional), no image stabilization etc.

Serious photographers prefer SLR cameras because they allow hordes of manual settings and addition of filters, zoom lenses, wide angle lenses, fish eye lenses and other unimaginable things. Non-SLR cameras have come in with these features these days but those arent too many in number.

Please please please check out the Panasonic Lumix FZ-20 to get a really good camera with absolutely mindblowing features + 12x built-in optical zoom + image stabilization (very important when taking long range photos with zoom and in low light conditions) + east point-and-shoot modes for secondary users like your sister or mom or your little brother + ability to add lenses, filters, external flash....in short - the best possible combination of the features of an SLR and a compact non-SLR camera alongwith features unique to both (like image atabilization).

They have recently introduced FZ-30 which is even better and offers an extended zoom upto 19x (optical). Check out one of the sites I list below and search for both the cams.

One more thing, you should NOT need anything more than 3 megapixels for casual photography. The only advantage of having greater megapixels is the ability to take LARGE size prints. So, you might safely go in for a 5 megapixel camera and it will allow you prints as large as you might ever need.
