Nikon Coolpix 775 Overview
Nikon gave us our first glimpse of the 775 behind closed doors at PMA 2001, it was announced a little later at the same time as the Coolpix 995. The ultra-compact 775 features a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.1 megapixel CCD, its small proportions, plastic case and lightweight lithium battery makes it one of the lightest digital cameras on the market today, it tips the scales at just 230g (8 oz) fully loaded.
The Coolpix 775 joins the Coolpix 700, 800 and 880 as part of the more compact side of the Coolpix range. It's the first ultra-compact Coolpix, its small proportions and light weight put it in that category. Clearly aimed at the first time buyer or size conscious end of the market. With a street price of approximately $450 it's up against the likes of Canon's PowerShot A20, Olympus D-510Z and the new Kodak DX's.
The 775 is designed to be small, pocketable and extremely easy to use.. With a straightforward Auto mode and seven preprogrammed exposure modes which configure the camera for optimum use in different types of scene you don't need to be a shutterbug to use this camera. This means of course that there isn't the normal Coolpix wide range of manual options, although you can still control white balance (including a manual preset), exposure compensation and sharpening. The 775 also has a movie mode which is limited to 15 second clips without audio.

No two human beings can agree on which camera or camcorder features are top priority and for how much, so you're ahead of the game if he's steered you in a general direction. If he hasn't, how about:
Canon PowerShot G10 — http://tinyurl.com/54sdp6 — has 14.7 megapixels and a 28mm wide-angle lens with improved face and motion detection. $499.99. Some question whether the amateur enthusiast needs that much pixel power.
If he wants his first single lens reflex:
Nikon D40 — http://tinyurl.com/2x23gg — has 6.3 megapixels and a superfast shutter with simple controls. $499.95. It's been out awhile but still good for the newbie SLR user.
There are plenty of point-and-shoots for a lot less, including the Nikon Coolpix, Sony Cyber-shot and Kodak EasyShare.
With video built into so many cameras these days, it may be a rare dad who wants to cuddle up with a high-defintion camcorder. If you've got one:

Olympic SP-700 Back Light Issue?
I just bought an Olympic SP-700 and found out the pictures i took with a bright background (usually sunlight) all look very dark on the face but bright at the background. Is therer anyway to improve this? I used Canon Coolpix which had a back light mode you can adjust to so your face doesn't get dark. Not sure what to do with this camera. Overall, i like this camera but this one issue does bother me a lot??!!??
Hi there, on a shooting scenerio like yours where there is 2 light extremes ,a bright background and a darker subject, I would try to change the metering mode of the camera to the cw (center weight ) , or spot setting. This allows the camera to determine exposure based on a smaller area ,usually based around the center autofocus point. Im not familar with the menu of this camera but i would go to the owners manual to see how to change them and it will also give u a more specific description on their workings , also i would do lots of experimenting. I hope this helps .
Kingston 2GB Memory Card + Nikon Coolpix S51?
Hi guys (: I have a Nikon Coolpix S51 camera and a Kingston 2GB SD memory card that I use for my camera. I noticed that there's a number on my camera's screen and it decreases everytime I take a picture/video. When I erase images from my camera, the number goes back up. But when I upload the pictures onto my computer, the number stays down, even if I delete the images from my camera.
So, my question is, when the number goes down to zero, do I have to buy another memory card (about $35)? I thought that I can just upload the images onto my computer and then the memory space goes backs up, but it doesn't seem that way and now I'm really confused. I THINK that I started off with like 1000 memory space, now its down to about 700.
Does this mean that this type of memory card can only take about 1000 images/videos/audio files that can be uploaded onto a computer, and then I'd have to buy another one? ):
As you use any camera, the number of available images decrease until you fill the roll of film or memory card. This is normal
You need to stop deleting images from your memory card ... this can result in the corruption of the card and the images on it.
After you have moved all your images to your computer, format the card using the format feature on your cameras menu. This will refresh your card and it will then be ready for new image files. You should be able to format your memory card about 20,000 times before you have to worry about buying a replacement
DO NOT try to format it using the computer format feature ... you may damage the card.
Remember to back up all your images by buring a CD from time to time
If you want to double check to even see if this is the problem, do this: Take a few pictures. Upload them to your computer. Now, go back to your camera and put it in review mode - are those pictures still on there? If so, then the above solution is all you need to take care of. Should be pretty easy to take care of!
Good Luck

Or... you could try the Nikon900 software. It probably does the same thing with pictures regardless of the model of Nikon camera you own. The only reason that it isn't listed is probably that the 5600 didn't exist when you bought XP.
the manual has step by step directions
If you get a card reader, no additional software is necessary. This is not only faster, but it saves your camera batteries. Your computer or printer may even have a card reader built into it. I have enough USB ports that I just leave it plugged in all the time.
First of all, be sure there are some pictures on the card. Plug the card reader into an open USB port. Plug the card into the appropriate slot on your card reader. I use Photoshop Elements and as soon as I plug my card into the reader, it starts its own card reader and displays a thumbnail of every picture on the card.
If this does not happen automatically, open your photo editing software. Do whatever you usually do to open a file, but click on the selector where you can change drives. Your card reader will be assigned a new drive name that will be one letter higher than you ever saw before, such as "Drive G:" or such. Then, just double click on the name of the file you want to open and it will appear in your photo editor.
