Broken Camera :( / Nikon Coolpix 5700 Inheritence
hey guys, my camera broke Dx. the broken one is a Canon PowerShot S50. but my mom gave me her old Nikon Coolpix 5700. it has a big ass lense and ...

On a Nikon Coolpix 5700, my pictures turn out dark even with decent lighting. How do I fix this?
The pictures keep coming out really dark, and I have been trying to fix it by using the brightening thing but its not working... It also doesn't help that i have lost the manual. Help! Thanks!
Check the exposure compensation setting. Set it to 0.
See if the photographs look dark only on your camera or even on downloading to your computer.
Try changing the modes and if nothing works, take out the battery and put it back in after a few minutes and then try.
I have a problem with my Nikon Coolpix 5700. Last week it worked fine-now there's a flashing icon. Won't work?
I have lost my manual so I don't know what the flashing icon means. It looks like a timer (round circle with lines in the center). I was planning to sell it on Craigslist and doublechecked it to be sure it was in good working condition. Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Does anyone have a fault diagnosis chart for a Nikon Coolpix 5700 ?
My Nikon seems to be giving up the ghost .. it takes pictures one day and the next it wont even focus, sort of "rips" the images ...does anyone have any ideas what may be wrong?
ok Kaz , will go see ... brb
can't seem to find anything on faults though I've stumbled across a forum on Flickr so that could prove useful, Ta muchly.
Not sure but if you put the Nikon on your search engine the instruction booklet with the trouble shooting should be on there. I have done this loads of times with verious items. Good Luck nad happy snapping!!!
I have a Nikon Coolpix 5700. What do I do to take fast action shots?
Instead of using the auto feature to take fast action shots, what would another alternate way of doing it. Sometimes the auto takes too long to focus and click, often blurring the image
Thats the thing, you cant!!!
The Nikon Coolpix 5700 was not really designed for fast action shots, becuase of shutter lag and very slow focus speeds. You need is a Digital SLR camera.
Check these arcticles, maybe they will help a bit :

how do I fix a "lens error" on nikon coolpix 5700?
I accidentally dropped my coolpix camera today, and now the lens sticks out and won't go back in are anything! Whenever I turn it on all I get is "lens error." I have tried everything I could think of, taken out the battery, jiggled the lens a little bit, I just don't know what to do! :( any suggestions?
Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

They will be better able to help you determine if you killed your camera or a simple "reset" will solve your problem
I also found when I did the research that there were A LOT of Coolpix 5700 owners who had experienced the same thing. Nikon would not stand behind the product either, and was requiring owners to foot the bill for the repairs, which amounted to more than the camera was worth.
I was very disappointed with what I found, and decided to scrap all my Nikon products (I had previously been a HUGE Nikon fan). I had spent over $600 on the 5700 and couldn't believe I had ended up with an absolutely useless product with no recourse.
I gave it to a friend a few months ago and told her if she could do something with it, she could have it. She took it to a camera store and they examined it, and backed up what I'd found on the internet about the cause of the problem - and that it's not worth spending the $$ to fix it. :(
I ended up having to buy a new camera - and this time I went with the Canon Digital Rebel XT - I've been very pleased with every feature of this camera, and it takes better pictures than the 5700 ever thought about taking. They've really come down in price by now too, which is an added plus. If you do buy one, just buy the body - don't spend the extra on the kit lens which is a very low quality lens that doesn't produce a quality photo. Go ahead and spend $200 or $300 more on a decent zoom lens, and you'll be very pleased with the results.
I'm sorry I couldn't give you better news. If you find out something better (i.e., Nikon will now stand behind its product and fix it!), I'd love to know as I still have it stuck in a camera bag and have nothing I can do with it.
Nixon Coolpix 5700 Help?
I am trying to take up photography and my dad had a Nixon Coolpix 5700 so im using that. Since im new with cameras im not sure what to do. When i turn on the camera the screen is always black when i take a picture its always black and i tried zooming out going to menu and tried monitor options but i still cant get it could some one plz help me.
And the lens cover was off
On my 5400, there is a monitor button that has an icon sort of like this: |[_]| If I press it, it toggles the monitor between all data, image only and monitor off. Try that. It's next to the viewfinder on the 5700. Or, try pressing the DISP button a few times to see what that does.
why does my nikon coolpix 5700 say out of memory when it has a new compact flash card in it?
I bought a used Nikon coolpix 5700 and got a brandnew 4 gig compact flash card for it and i put it in and formatted it like you supposed to and it says out of memory. but there is nothing on the memory card why does it say it is full?? im baffled and would like to find out becouse this is a very nice camera. if any one has any ideas on what is wrong with it please let me know. Thank you!!
It may well be that you have your image file storage set to "internal" instead of "external" (the memory card)
Too hard to make a good photo @ NIGHT (with people in motion) using a Nikon coolpix 5700?
Im an amateur who can take good pix. Recently got this cam, which seems rather complicated, as a present. I know several will say: read the manual. Sure, but these r meant 4 people with already some knowledge....and Im not 1 of them. Also, its in a language I cant read. Have tried several settings, but either, shutter takes 2 long 2 record (cant always use a tripod), and the image appears blurred, or its 2 bright, or colors not right. This cam has A LOT of settings...could someone explain what these refer 2? Here I list them:
1. Metering (with options MATRIX - SPOT - CENTER WEIGHTED - SPOT AF AREA)
2.Lens (NORMAL - WIDE ADAPTER - TELEPHOTO)
3. Exposure options (AE LOCK - MAXIMUM BULB DURATION)
4. Focus - (AF AREA MODE: MANUAL/AUTO - AUTO FOCUS: SINGLE AF/CONTINUOUS)
5. Image sharpening (AUTO - HIGH - LOW)
6. Noise reduction (on/off?)
7. Auto Bracketing (OFF - ON - WB BRACKETING)
8. Control: MEMORIZE - FUNC. - AE-L & AF-L (What do these mean?
Thanx 4 helping, I know its a lot.
This is a very nice cam, and during the day, it gives no trouble at all, portrait, macro, panorama, you name it. As long as there is enough light, it is great, I must say....it just makes me suffer at night!!! And I cannot still decypher the manual....it is in Dutch, and...well, at least I managed to set the cam in English!! So....thats why, I would appreciate your help. I had such a bad time tonight, as I had to make some pix, and couldnt do more than one or two (not so good) ones.....HELP ME PLEASE!!!
Hmmm....I think I mentioned I'm not familiar with certain terms....asa? whatever. As for the manual...once again, how can I read it when it is in a language which, apart from technical, is DUTCH??!! I dont speak Dutch........
Thanx for the suggestions, about the website, and the similar models.
Regarding the ISO, yes, I have tried the different ones....not much success......in any case....how can I speed up/slow down the shutter speed??
And believe me....last night I spent almost an hour, with an elimination process....took about 200 pix with poor or mediocre result.....And as for asking people stand still....hahaha....that you can do with friends....last night I was trying to get some shots of Madonna getting to her hotel....see if she will freeze for your shot. Hehehehe........Thanx guys.
trial and error! We can get all scientific about this but you need to get the basic understanding of exposure and then just try different settings, it takes time to learn photography and you will always be learning photography that's the beauty of it, one day you think you know everything about it and then a challenging situation comes up and you have to try different things. For a good basic knowledge of photography look no further than John Hedgecoe, he has some great books for beginners. Go into your local waterstones and just flick through them, get a coffee and think about the one you think will benefit you the most and then buy it.
I have a coolpix 5700.im getting vertical lines through my photos?

Firmware for Nikon Coolpix 5700?
My Nikon malfunctions. I suppose that firmware is corrupted. Can I reinstall the firmware.
Atula
I doubt it. You can try and replace the Nikon if it is under warranty or even if it isn't submit a support request and try and get it replaced. If the firmware is corrupted, then it is defective and Nikon should replace it.
