How can the flash in Nikon Coolpix 5200 be controlled to manual ?

The flash works almost automatically irrespective of whether you want more light or not. What is the option through which I can make the flash of Nikon Coolpix 5200 blink or no blink at all ?

I'm not intimately familiar with this camera, but I am pretty sure you will have a button with that zig-zag lightning bolt near it. Press that button and watch your monitor display. The first press will probably show you a little picture of the zig-zag sirrounded by a circle with a slash running through it. This means, "NO FLASH."

What could cause my Coolpix 5200 to stop transfering pictures to computer when using the cable?

I have been transferring photos to my computer via cable for a year without problem. Recently I transferring pictures to my home computer with one of those lttile devices you stick the SanDisk into -- again no problem. I am now trying to transfer pictures to my office computer wiht the cable I always use and it reads as no pictures available. There are pictures -- why won't it read them via cable all of a sudden. Thanks to anyone who can help.

I assume when you say via cable you mean through a USB cable. I'll be honest, I don't know what could be causing your particular problem since it works on your home computer. It could be any number of problems with the office computer.

What version of Windows is the office computer running, if it is Windows ME or less then the problem is likely device drivers. Provided the pictures are stored in .jpg or .jpeg format then there shouldn't be any problem reading them.

A stretch would be to say it is the cable itself or the USB port isn't supplying enough power to the memory card reader. Like I said, that is a very far stretch.

If you really want to get the pictures on your office computer and if you have a CD burner at home you could just burn a CD with the desired pictures on them and take that to your office.

Try to understand my question. When I shoot a movie through my camera and view it through my television, only the movie can be seen, but it is muted. No sound comes out. Where on earth does the solution to this question lie ? In the manual ? In the reviews ? NEVER !!!

You might like to check out http://www.nikoncoolpix.com , or do a search for your Coolpix 5200 - there should be forums you can read about it. Besides your manual, of course. But anyway most cameras you can learn as you go, they're not that difficult.

How do i set the camera so it wil take a pic by itself. I want to take a family pic, with everyone in it. I dont want to have one family member taking the pic. Can i set the camera up somehow to do that? Please help. Can i take consecitive pics the same way?

You want to use the self-timer function. Look for a tiny picture that looks sort of like a clock. Press the button that is near that picture and you will then see a little picture that looks just the same appear somewhere on your LCD. Push the shutter adn the camera will start to beep once per second. It will beep for ten seconds before it takes the picture. I do not think you can use this in continuous mode. You have to hold the shutter button down to use the continuous mode. My 5400 has something called "5 shot buffer," but if I engage that, the self-timer is locked out.

For a group photo, you will want to use the full 10 second interval, but if you are doing something where you just want to hold the camera still, you can press the shutter once to start the 10 second count down and once that starts, if you press the shutter button again, it will skip down to 3 seconds. This is useful for macro photography, for instance. If you press the shutter once more before the exposure is made, it will cancel the whole shot.
