How do I record videos with my Nikon Coolpix 4200?

Well - pretty good snapshots (okay - maybe just so-so). Biggest problem areas I see are:

-- Lots of barrel distortion from the wide angle lens that was used - this can be corrected in most image editing programs (this refers to the curves of straight lines - a mild fish eye effect)

-- White balance is off in the interior shots

-- Contrast is a dull and many are underexposed - also have blown highlights in the sky which is common with point and shoot digitals

-- The horizon is crooked on many of these

-- Basic compositional rules are lacking (do a seach on the rule of thirds)

-- Overall - these don't do much for me and some basics could have made them better. But what do I know - I'm just some stranger on the internet...but since you asked...I answered. Hope this criticism is viewed as constructive. You might check out photosig.com which is a site where people post photos to have them critiqued.

`Light was flat. Tops of some subjects cut off. Not many were well framed. I liked the green house and the round fountain. Good first effort. Might avoid 'artsy' shots such as that one with the shrub or tree in front of a building. Not sure what the subject was supposed to be. Might try to take pics a different times of day and use the light/shadows to better advantage.

I didn't read any of the replies until after I looked at the pictures because I didn't want them to influence my opinion but I did think it looked overcast or as one person mentioned the light was a bit flat or something. Other than that I thought they were very nice though! Beautiful campus!

I think the photos are good.. There were a few where the camera seemed a little tilted and off centered.. but some of the shots are really gorgeous.. My favorites are 5, 21, 26, 28, 42, 45, 50, 51, 55, and 56. Very good photography for catalog work.

Issues with digi cam photos?

I have a Nikon Coolpix 4200, and recently when I load the pictures onto my computer, some of the pictures look almost morphed. Some of them have been broken straight down the middle, so for instance one side of a face is an inch higher than the other. Some of the others have a large grey or yellow box taking up almost the entire photo. The color changes, it is grey, blue, yellow etc. The odd thing is, when I load them into Picasa they look completely normal at first (as they do on the camera) but then once Picasa is finished loading, they re-morph. If I use another picture program, they look bad from the start. I hope I am making sense, and that you can make sense out of this for me!

It's possible that your camera is broken, but it's also possible that you have a corrupted memory card.

Try another memory card (I wouldn't trust the old one if it's corrupted) and see if the problem still occurs. If it doesn't re-occur, then the problem is your old memory card and it should be destroyed and then thrown away.

If you have the same problem with the second memory card, then your camera itself is broken, probably not the sensor itself, but the chips that process the sensor data to make a jpeg file.

If that's the case, I'd contact Nikon support via http://www.nikonusa.com and see what your options are.
