Multi-media in Your Blog

It is possible to have photographs, images, audio and video in your blog. But do you want to put them up there?

Certainly you should know how to do this. Many people, myself included, are enjoying the new learning experiences gained whilst writing blogs. The desire to make your blog more interesting, more appealing, draws you into this techie-web. You must have seen these effects on other blogs and wondered how they do that.

One of the issues is hosting and bandwidth. If you are hoping to make money from the internet you will already be using your own hosting site. Similarly, if having full control of your blog is important to you then you will have gone down that leg too. But if you are just starting you might well be hosting your blog on a free blogging service, such as WordPress or Blogger. What would you do then?

You may not want to, indeed you may not be able to, store significant volumes of data on your blogging service’s servers. You could just point to other peoples’ images on other peoples’ sites, but that would stealing their images and stealing their bandwidth (using their facilities to store and upload data). They might get cross and block this or, which is much worse, replace the images with some vitriolic criticism of your work, for all the world to see!

Exceptions of course are sites such as YouTube which allow you to upload videos freely and then to cut and paste them to your blog. Firstly then, you need to make your video and load it up onto YouTube. Then you take a look at it.

As you look at the video you will see, in the upper-right area of the screen, a box containing the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) and, underneath it, a box called Embedded. In this second box is the “code” to run the video; it usually starts with <object width followed by other parameters. You select the code, by just left-clicking in the box; the code should turn to a solid blue background. You copy the code by right-clicking it and choosing Copy from the drop-down menu. You then Paste it to your blog by right-clicking the blog somewhere (in HTML mode) and choosing Paste from the drop-down menu.

That’s it: Select, Copy, Paste. But really, you need your own hosting site.

Ephemera, Blogs and the Internet

Many bloggers use the Wordpress (or some other facilitator) site itself to host their blogs. Other users, who may wish to have more control of the posts and the elements that make up the pages, will be paying for their own hosting sites; this would be especially true for those trying to make money on line. But either way, the pages and elements, the images and video, will not be there forever.

If there is a site you use for reference, you may go there every day to check something or another, you can never be sure that the page you want will be there next time. Even if the page is there, it may well have changed significantly from the last time that you saw it. Whatever authority the document has, it is a strange, new kind of authority, quite different from that of the Encyclopedia Britannica at your local library.

Even more troubling to my mind is the fact that any changes made are not at all obvious.

Let me offer a contrast: I collect books by the American poet Charles Bukowski. If I look at page 25, say, of a first edition of one of his books then I am confident it will say exactly the same as page 25 of any other first edition. Further, I have seen (for sale on the web) manuscript copies of his poems, the copies he sent off to his publisher. Now in the early days he typed these poems on a typewriter and made any corrections in ball-point pen. Then around 1988 (I don’t know the date) he started using a word-processor and, of course, these later manuscripts don’t show any such corrections. The former manuscripts are obviously much more desirable in that they have the hand-writing of the man himself, but also because they show some of the genesis of the poems.

Bernard Levin wrote an article in the London Times, many years ago, making the same point. He had switched from a typewriter to a computer and noticed this loss of information. He contrasted it with a music score he had, in the composer’s hand, in which corrections were clearly visible. This will prove a serious loss to historians of the future.

So there it is. Your blogs, and other documents on the web, are here today and gone tomorrow. They can change, without trace, before your very eyes. Maybe we should be looking after them more carefully.

Chem help: What is the difference between the chemical symbol N and representations like 14N or 15N?

The 14 is a little number to the top left of the N as is the 15. Thank you for your help!

These are called "isotopes". 14N is nitrogen with an atomic
weight of 14 (the sum of the protons and neutrons).
15N an isotope of nitrogen with an extra neutron.

14 and 15 refer to the atomic mass, ie isotopes of N with differing numbers of neutrons

how can i, a 14n year old teenager, help darfur?

this is something i am really passionate about do you have any advice?

Make sure your online profiles (MySpace, FaceBook, etc.) link to all of the various Sudan-focused efforts out there, and subscribe to their blogs. You may want to make the focus of your own blog on these online profiles all about Darfur, educating your peers about the situation and encouraging them to help. By getting the message out, you will be getting more young people thinking like you, and these young people can influence their parents and elected officials.

Save Darfur is an alliance of over 100 faith-based, humanitarian and human rights organizations.

Mia Farrow provides a page of links to the various organizations working in and for Sudan:

It's a very brave thing for a 14 year old to want to participate in this. The easy thing would be to say "it's not our problem because it's far away." But silence means approval. And to do nothing is to support the genocide. So don't let anyone discourage you from this effort -- it's needed, it's important, and some day, when your children ask you, "What did YOU do to stop the genocide in Darfur?" you will be able to proudly answer.

an object weighing 14n is swung at the end of a cord .80m long. The object makes 2.0 revolutions per second. ?

What is the centripetal force on the moving object?

Fc = centripetal force = mv^2/r = m r w^2
w = angular speed = angled turned /time taken = 4pi/1 [rad/sec]
w = 4 * (22/7) = 88/7

weight = mg = 14 Newton
m = 14/9.8 kg
Fc = [14/9.8] [0.80] [88/7]^2
= 180.62 N

If E. Coli grown in 15N medium is transfered to 14N medium and allowed to grown for two more generations...?

and DNA is centrifuged. What density distribution of DNA would you expect in this experiment?

DNA replicate semiconservatively.

The E.coli with 15N is heavier than the E.Coli 14N (parent) .

The first generation of these will be E.coli with both 15N and 14N. So, the density is in the middle compered to the 15N and 14N.( E.coli with 15N+14N)

Thus for the second generation the DNA will replicates again. The second generation is similar to the parent. So, it have 2 density, E.Coli with 14N is lighter and the E.coli with 15N is heavier.

Hope this help.

The last term of sequence is given by Tn=n^2 - 14n is 151.How many terms are there?

When n=17, T(n)=51, NOT 151!!

Trevor K is right... Use the quadratic formula:
(b +- sqrt (b^2 - 4ac)) / 2a
to work out the value of n. With 151, you don't get a whole number, so the question doesn't really make sense.

Check your question again, I suspect that the last term is, in fact, 51...

n^2-14n=151[given]
n^2-14n-151=0
soloving this quadratic u get an answer which is not a whole no. round that no.
you get the answer as 17
ans=17 terms

to find the terms in a solution do n+1

yeah what they said lol

n^2 - 14n = 151
n^2 -14n -151 = 0
quadratic formula
[14 +- sqrt( 14^2 - 4*1*(-151) )] / 2*1
7 +- .5 sqrt( 69 + 604 )
7 +- .5 sqrt( 673 )
which is not a whole number

therefore, 151 is not a term in that sequence.

How do you work out 10n+14n-2?

How do you calculate the number of moles in 8.15x10^15 atoms of 14N.?

8.15 x 10^15 atoms N-14 x (1 mole / 6.023 x 10^23 atoms) = 1.31 x 10^-8 moles

What is the building that we see on google with the following coordinates:48`42`02.14N and 9`08`54`.05O?

What is the building?

In Unteraichen Germany?

Find an if n=2 of the arithmetic sequence with an=14n-3?

The formula you have is a direct formula. You can calculate any number in the sequence without having to know the previous one.

Since its direct you can just fill in 2 for n

an=14n-3
a2 = 14 * 2 - 3 = 28 - 3 = 25

Hope this helped

what is the element that has 13p+, 14n, and 10e-?

No, guys, it is an isotope of Aluminum.

Isotopes are the ones with the same number of protons but different number of neutrons.

The normal Aluminum is 13p+ and 13n. (13+13)
===> Aluminum-26 (or we just call it Aluminum)
This one has 13p+ and 14n. (13+14)
===> Aluminum-27

But the 10e- meant that it is an ion, where it lost 3e-.
so it is: Aluminum-27 3+ (it has 3+ charge).
