Rumor mill: Nikon VP650 camera / projector combo soon to be revealed

Looks like our one of our dreams just might come to fruition after all, if this newest rumor coming from the vicinity of Nikon is to be believed, anyway. Now, there aren't a lot of details to go round here, but Nikon Rumors is reporting that Chasseur d'Image -- a print magazine in France with a history of publishing rumors that turn into reality -- has published a report that Nikon will soon announce the VP650. What is this VP650, you ask? Well, it's a hybrid compact digital camera with an LED projector (which may or may not be manufactured by Taiwanese company Foxlink) that can project 8 x 12 images in "good quality" in the dark. Chasseur d'Image reports that the VP650 will ship in September. Like we said -- not a whole lot of detail, but we'll keep our eyes peeled to see if this thing ever appears. We'll say this though -- such a product would probably make the tiny projector a lot more attractive.

RIM could release BlackBerry with front-facing camera

RIM could release BlackBerry with front-facing camera

RIM revealed that they could finally relent and unveil a BlackBerry device that has a front-facing camera in order to keep up with the Jonese in the mobile device world. According to one source from RIM, “video conferencing is something that could completely change the mobile landscape and it is something we have been thinking about and working on for quite some time. You will start seeing something early next year”. Early 2010, eh? Best to mark that date down in our calendars and start bombarding the RIM line-up with more details when the deadline draws ever nearer.

Publisher's note: "Meh", front-facing cameras have been the most unused feature in cellphone history

Red-light cameras remain useful tools for law enforcement agencies TribLocal

Algonquin has four red-camera locations at three intersections — northbound Randall Road at Bunker Hill Drive, northbound Randall at Algonquin Road, westbound Algonquin at Randall and southbound Route 31 at Algonquin.

Initiated in 2008 to help protect the community against the risks of crashes, tickets are issued to motorists caught running red lights or illegally turning right on red. Each recorded violation is reviewed by a sworn police officer before a citation is issued.

A total of 16,955 tickets have been issued the last three years, generating about $1,373,221 in revenue, according to data. In addition, 34 residents have been injured as a result of 284 traffic accidents.

Citations issued, as well as revenue collected, has decreased each year after peaking in 2009 when 7,128 tickets were handed out, equating to about $681,964. Last year, 4,448 tickers were issued and $257,893 was collected in fines — 37 percent and 62 percent decline.

Accidents have also declined by 27 percent to 71 from 98 three years ago.

The cameras have altered driving habits at intersections that are not under surveillance, according to Algonquin police Chief Russell Laine.

“These cameras are changing peoples’ behavior when they approach intersections,” he said. “The numbers are down across the board. Drivers are being more careful.”

Camera statistics are evaluated each year for possible elimination or relocation.

In Lake in the Hills, two red-light cameras were shut down in January 2010 because of a reduction in violations. They were located at the intersections of Hilltop Drive and Algonquin Road and at Randall and Miller roads.

The use of the cameras was always viewed as a pilot program that would never be funded in any way by the taxpayer, said David Brey, chief of patrol services. The decision to remove the camera  systems came down to the fact they would no longer be violator funded.

The village now uses cameras at the intersection of Randall and Acorn Lane. A total of 3,763 citations have been issued since 2008, generating about $378,260 in revenue, according to statistics. Those numbers include fines collected at the two other intersections before they were shut down.

After spiking during the first year of existence, with 1,512 tickets and $128,200 in revenue generated, numbers have declined each year.

Citations have decreased 52 percent to 719 last year, data shows. Revenue has also decreased by 55 percent to $58,225.

“These cameras are doing exactly what we thought they would do,” Brey said. “Motorists are starting to slow down and stop instead of trying to beat the light.”

Unlike Algonquin, Lake in the Hills does not issue fines for right-on-red violations. That decision was made because the vast majority of serious accidents involve drivers going straight through the intersection on yellow lights, Brey said.

“It’s not about revenue,” he said. “If it were, we would issue right-on-red tickets. We could do that all day long.”

I want a new digital camera, now i have the pink kodak, but i want something that will take better pictures and will show up when its dark outside. I like how my camera now has this battery in it that is square and all i have to do is change my camera then im good to go! no having to keep changing batterys! Some please help me out! I would love a chargealbe camera!

Samsung L730. It is currently the cheapest camera with an inbuilt rechargeable battery, face recognition and "Image Stabilization". It comes in a variety of colours. The link below is an Australian website listing its details. As an SLR owner myself I bought one of these for a friend and was reasonably impressed with it.

If you want a simple "point and shoot" camera you maybe want to take a look at this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/484783-REG/Canon_1773B001_PowerShot_A570_IS_Digital.html
It isn't that advanced, and it support up to ISO 1600, which make it perfect for "bad light situations".

What camera is advertised in the current TV ad where a guys camera is borrowed by the girls at the party?

You know the one where they shoot lots of pics and then slip the camera back before he arrives only to find lots of photos of the girls on his camera. The camera has a short recycle time between photos. What is the brand/model of the camera?

what camera should I buy to replace the three I have?

I am tired of carrying 3 cameras everywhere I go! I have the following: (1) a small point and shoot digital camera, 2 years old, (needed for its convenient size, instant picture review, and ease of e-mailing pictures), (2) a Minolta Maxuum 35 mm, 17 years old, with various lenses (needed for taking wide angles, telephotos, and doing creative photography that the digital one can't handle), and (3) a digital tape (mini DV) camcorder, 3 years old. I have been carrying all three of them around all week while hiking in the Grand Canyon, and have decided I need to find one camera that will do everything I need! Don't want to spend a fortune, but want something that is fully digital, gives the quality and lens changing options of the Minolta, and takes videos. Oh yes, and preferably is not too heavy! Does such a camera exist? What is it called? How much does it cost? THANK YOU!

Edit: nvm, the Canon XTi and Nikon D80 do not allow movie clips. The prosumer Canon S5 IS does and it's the best choice after the previous two for photo shooting and versatility that I know of. (It has 12X zoom, it's compact, it has 8 mps, and it's a canon so the image quality should most likely be very good.) I don't think you can change the lens on it though.

Use the features search under buying guide on dpreview.com. It's your best bet for a movie camera that allows you to change lens as well. Choose SLR-Like cameras because I didn't see any SLR cameras that allow movie shooting. These should all cost between 400-1000+.

I keep editing my answer to your question because it's such a difficult and interesting question. I hope that you would be able to find such a camera.

you dont buy acamera you hire a cameraman

Sounds like a Digital Single Lens Reflective is the way to go for you. Check some of these out: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2070070012+1063107629&name=DSLR

You might consider my camera. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2.
Being phased out for other models. 6 megapixels, 12X optical zoom. Very good on AA rechargeables, has image stabilizer, manual controls in addition to auto, comes with battery charger, and 1 second delay between shots. Gives excellent 8X10 print, acceptable 11X14.

You will still need two cameras. One still camera (you can get the Sony DSLR that uses your Minolta lenses) and keep your mini-DV.

What camera quality do you look for when shopping for a camera?

I'm going to college pretty soon and I'm trying to buy my own camera, but the thing is I don't know what to look for in a digital camera. I'll be using the camera for taking pictures on special occasions (day and night) and on casual days as well. I'm looking for something that takes really good pictures, but nothing too expensive!

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on.......

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

There are many good camera review sites on the web. Here are two that I really like:

and

Before you order, you should know there are many scam sites out there. “If it looks too good to be true, it’s probably a lie.” Before ordering from any merchant you are not familiar with, check them out at:

Good luck and good shooting.

What camera did the american soldiers use in the vietnam war?

In the vietnam war the american soldiers caught the war on camera with black and white film.

I was wondering what the make and model of that camera was.

If there were a few cameras that were used, please state all and the one that was mostly used.

I am interested in what the camera was that they used.

Thanks

I remember setting up the pin-hole camera, taking the cap off and retreating to a safe spot while waiting for the image to be taken, and returning to put the cap back on. Developing was a pain! ;^)

I remember having a Kodak instamatic or equivalent, and I got my first good camera, a Pentax 35mm spotmatic, at a PX somewhere, sometime in 1968.

I would guess they would have used the Nikon F or variants of it, as this was probably the most reliable and versatile camera of the time.

Most of the film from that era was from News reels. Film shot by news groups.

If the soldiers did the filming, most likely it was a super 8 or similar camera.

Nikon F1

Some of the pictures I took were black and white. The overwhelming majority were color slides. I used a Pentax Spotmatic SLR and a Canon Ranger finder. Others in my outfit had Canon SLR.

First, what makes you think we shot it in black and white? Probably the most popular cameras were things like the Rangefinders of Yashica or Canon. My camera, however, was a Pentax SV (on the Honeywell Pentax HV), which was a predecessor of the Spotmatic. I never saw a Canon or Nikon SLR over there at all with a serviceman. Olympus was a popular camera also, but I saw most of them in Japan where, again, I never saw a Nikon or a Canon. Many servicemen came home with twin lens Yashicas and other brands. Color print film and color slide film were available as was BW.

nikon f1, it was the most common at the time, cheap enough to buy on mass scale

What is the best camera for an amateur who can't spend too much money?

I ordred a proffesional camera from E-Bay, and when it came in, it did not even work! I guess that's E-Bay for you. We are in the process of returning it. In the meantime my husband was able to get me a camera at a low cost from where he works, but it is only a small digital camera. The pictures I have taken with it are still not as good as I would have hoped, regardless of how the subject is posed and the angle I am shooting at. I understand about trying to photograph in the early morning and late evening to acheive the best lighting. But the colors are still not very bright and the picture not very sharp. Do I really just need to get a more professional camera to acheive this, or is it possible to get good quality photos from a cheap camera with the right experience? What type of camera would you recommend for an amateur photographer, when we really can't afford the thousand dollar ones?

I can suggest three options for you:

1. Check the Canon S3 iS for $350 at Beachcamera.com (it has a 12X zoom lens, and many features of a DSLR but not exchangeable lens capacity, which you would not need with that monster lens).

2. Go to www.keh.com and check the Nikon D70S with the kit lens. It has recently been superceded by the D50 and the D80 but it is STILL a great camera and has all the features you will need for a long time to come. You should be able to pick up a reasonably good one for about $400-$450. It is still a very popular model worldwide.

3. Check the Nikon D50 for about $500-$550 at www.bhphotovideo.com and you'll have a decent camera for learning and fun times.

These suggested cameras will give you all the control you will need (plus automation, if you do not feel comfortable using the camera on your own) to get great images. But do remember that a camea is only a lightproof box, and the lens is sometimes more important since it is the part that sends the "images" (or reflected light) to the film or sensor to record... and how good it reaches the film or sensor is what determines how good your images will be (how good they are printed will be determined by the printer used and the paper and inks used). Good luck and best wishes.

What type of camera should I bring to the Galapagos Islands?

I am not a professional photographer, but I don't want to get low-quality shots when going to such a beautiful place (as I would get if I brought my $200 point and shoot camera). I am willing to buy a new camera, not more than $350.

Also, is an SLR camera worth it?

What are some suggestions for both point-and-shoot cameras and SLR cameras?

Well, for what you would have to pay to get a good P&S, you could get an inexpensive SLR.

Now, I am sure you want a digital. Film SLRs can be had for practically nothing-$50-100 for a whole package. But you can get a used DSLR for around $350. Check craigslist. I see DSLRs there all the time and for less than $350.

I realize that you may not usually have a reason to have a DSLR, but if I were choosing between a new $350 P&S or a used DSLR for $350, I would choose the DSLR without hesitation.

What's the best camera to get for recording YouTube videos?

I want to get a video camera for Christmas. I want to be able to record videos and put them on YouTube. There'll be drumming videos. Does anyone know what type of camera I should get to film the videos, bearing in mind I'll be recording drums so I need high quality sound and video. I don't want a small digital camera, either, I want a proper camera. I don't have that much money to spend on it, so if anyone could recommend a good camera please?

A4tech PC300 ,it has also infrared lights to record at night, very cheap and good for home.

Best phone camera to buy if i want to replace digital camera?

Whats the best phone camera available, with the highest res/framerate for video as well. I want to replace my digital camera and my phone. Not bothered about what else the phone does as long as its not huge, the camera is good, has a flash, the video quality is good as well. Found that phones often compromise on the video quailty.

lg renior.
its got a 8mp camera
andf the video is 120 fps which for a phone and a camera is amazing

or posssably the samsung pixon? same as the renior but less high res vdieo

if you dont want a touchscreen the sony ericsoon c905 thats got a 8.1 mp camera and is a cybershot

or the samsung i850 which is the same as the pixon but a slider with 16gb of memory

if you want optical zoom the samsung g800 has a 3x optical zoom
but only 5mp camera and is extreamly big

What's a good camera for professional looking pictures?

I have a 5mp digital camera and the quality is ok. What to see if there is a better camera to use. Im into graphics and looking to get into photography. Want a camera that photographers use.Whats the price range on a camera like that and what would be a good camera?

The camera you have should be good enough I my self have a samsung v5 which like yours is a 5 mega pixel and in my opinion is a grate camera it has a Schneider lens and is quite small and packed with features to answer your question though i would wait till you are a good photographer before buying a really good camera because your camera is only as good as the guy taking the pictures and it sounds like for now you have a good camera....good luck
